Oven cleaning can be a tiresome task, especially if you have neglected to clean your oven for a long time. When you start with your annual spring-cleaning routine, the first thing you should clean is your oven so that you do not put it away for later. Moreover, regular oven cleaning can avoid frequent oven repairs.

Your oven should never be left unclean because you are using it for cooking and every time you use it, food particles get stuck in the nooks and corners. Overtime they turn into hard grime and give out a bad odor when you use your oven. It is unhealthy as the food particles may melt and penetrate into the food you are cooking. The grease, grime and months of dirt can even lead to fires (rare cases).

It is utterly not possible to keep your oven sparkling clean all the time whether you use it daily or monthly but the below listed hacks can surely make your oven as good as new and may make your task less stupendous.

Hack #1: Vinegar And Baking Soda

The most famous hack of all time and an all-rounder cleaner is the vinegar and baking soda mixture. This can be done in two ways.

Make a paste of half cup water with a cup of baking soda and 3 to 4 spoons of vinegar. The paste should be thick. Apply half of the paste on the grime and stubborn stains and place the leftover on the top shelf of the oven. Remove all the extra racks from the oven. Now heat up the oven for around one hour at 100 degrees. Use a soft wet sponge cloth to wipe once the oven is cooled.

Make a paste of half cup of baking soda with water. The paste should be thick. Apply on all the grease and grime encrusted debris and leave it for overnight or 24 hours. Now put half cup of vinegar and half cup of water in a spray bottle and spray on areas where you have applied the paste. The vinegar reacts with the baking soda and loosens and cleans the grime and stains. Clean with a soft washcloth.

Hack #2: Lemon Or Vinegar Bath

The acidic nature of the vinegar and lemon when heated up produces steam which permeates the grime and stains and loosens all the grime and debris and makes your oven look sparkling clean.

Cut 5 to 6 lemons in half and squeeze out the juice in an oven proof tray and also put the lemons and bake it at 200 to 250 degrees for 45 minutes. Or place 2 cups of vinegar in an oven proof tray and bake. The steam will clean up the oven. Once it is cooled you can wipe it with a soft cloth.

Hack #3: Toothbrush Technique

Your toothbrush has the tendency to reach the small nooks and crannies and you will be amazed at the result. Spray oven cleaner or any cleaning liquid on the dust and grime and start scrubbing with a toothbrush. You can alternatively use hot water to loosen up the stains and food grime. Wipe it with a soft and wet sponge cloth for remaining residue.

Hack #4: Dishwasher Tablet

The dishwasher detergent tablet can be used to clean your oven glass door. Wet it a little and then scrub it thoroughly on the glass door and even on the rack of your oven. Let it sit for 5 to 10 min and wipe it with a wet washcloth.

Hack #5: Self Cleaning Option

Do you know that your oven has a self-cleaning option? Well not every oven has it but most do. Check your manual if you have one. If you do then open all the windows for ventilation and turn on the fans or exhaust to avoid heat up. Press the button and wait for it to do the magic. It will take from 2 to 4 hours. Do not let kids or pets enter the kitchen and do not leave the house till the cycle is complete. If the feature is not working, get an appliance expert to fix it.

To avoid buildup of grease and grime in your oven, clean the spills immediately from the oven as it will be easy to clean instantly. Also give your oven a thorough cleaning every month so that it does not get a bad buildup of grime and dirt.
